Essentially, a periodontist is a specialist in retaining teeth, repairing gum and bone defects as well as replacing missing teeth to help patients eat, talk, and smile.
It takes almost 10 years of training to become a periodontist. That’s 5 years of general dental training, 2 years of qualifying examinations and 3 years of specialist training.
