A periodontist is a dental specialist who treats gum diseases to prolong the lifespan of diseased teeth, performs complex implant surgery, bone grafting, gum grafting procedures.

 

Essentially, a periodontist is a specialist in retaining teeth, repairing gum and bone defects as well as replacing missing teeth to help patients eat, talk, and smile.

 

It takes almost 10 years of training to become a periodontist. That’s 5 years of general dental training, 2 years of qualifying examinations and 3 years of specialist training.
